It would appear that Bryan Colangelo is recruiting some former Georgia Tech stars to make Chris Bosh happy. Reports are circulating that the Raptors have offered former Georgia Tech point guard Jarrett Jack a contract. I guess this is what you do when trying to sell your franchise player that he should stay in the city that drafted him for the long term. It always amazes me that the organizations sell their souls for certain players, when in actual fact it should be the other way around. I imagine when there were fewer professional sports jobs available, players would go the extra mile for the organization and be happy that they were getting paid to play a sport that they loved.
I really should get over this though, this is obviously the way it is and it’s the norm and cost of doing business in the pro sports. I myself would’ve thought the prospects of making 81 million over 4 or 5 years would be enticing enough for someone of Bosh’s ilk? If I were Bosh I would sign in Toronto for whatever they offered me (assuming it was market value and we all know Toronto can pay Bosh the most under the NBA’s zany CBA). I think CB4 would be second/third or even fourth fiddle in any other market than Toronto. I really don’t have any angst towards Bosh, I just don’t believe he’s a superstar. In my opinion he’s a solid player, but not one that will lead a team to title single handedly like LBJ or KOBE. But I guess when he leaves the Raptors next summer we can at least carrying on the Jarrett Jack revolution. Thanks CB4.
bosh is a douche….and he will leave because of some stupid lame excuse that he wants to win a championship….but if you as a player think you are a superstar, isn’t that enough to win a championship?…douche like vince and tracy before him
Douchey Libre lives again.

So, you would have us believe that Jarrett Jack has no game? He is just there to hand CB a towel and water bottle when he comes out of the game and hang out after the game. If that was the case, I would have hoped the Raptors would have do it right and signed Joel Bosh (Chris’s brother) to a longterm contract. Please report back to us at the allstar break and let us know how JJ’s only purpose is to be CB’s buddy. Ok? Sheesh.
Are you claiming that Jarrett Jack is an all-star? Maybe you are the guy that hands Jack his towel and his juice. Are you his Turtle in his Entourage? In all honesty I don’t think that the signing of Jack is horrible, my point is more to do with the fact that you have to recruit your star players and beg them to show some loyalty. Now get back to work and hand Jarrett his triple mocha latte.
I find it a bit ridiculous to think that this was only done to appease Bosh. The Raptors have a glaring hole at the backup point guard position he will provide depth at the shooting guard spot as well (he actually played more at the 2 than at the 1 last season).
The fact that he’s Bosh’s buddy is a bonus, sure, but let’s be clear about this: Jack was acquired because of the way he plays basketball. Looking at Toronto’s roster, this much should be obvious.
If you really want some ammunition for your “The Raptors do too much to appease their star”, then, well, Joel Bosh was on the Raptors’ summer league team last summer.

buddy, what are you talking about? jack is not an all star, but he’ll be one of the best backups in the league, and worth the 5 mil. if they offered any less, indiana would have matched it. a solid backup bg was a hole for the raptors (although i like ukic, he’s a couple years away from deserving major minutes, and has the same defensive liabilities that calderon has) and if you had to choose between 2 similar players on the free agent market, you choose jack with the added intangible that he is an old friend of bosh’s. colangelo is smart enough to kill two birds with one stone.
it’s nice to think that the raptors could pull a better player for less money, but you have to be realistic. i’d love to have a pg like bibby for 6 mil, or an sf like artest for the midlevel, but that’s not gonna happen. they gave the teams they signed with a discount because they want to be there enough to take less money than others would offer. besides the fact that the raptors reside in canada, and that it’s “too cold” here, there are legit factors why others don’t want to play in toronto, including a lack of national (american) media attention (and likely lower endorsement deals because of it), instability in the coaching staff & front office for years before colangelo, a relatively short history compared to some of the great nba franchises, and no real playoff success to speak of yet. plus we’re a long way from bosh’s hometown of dallas. as a raptors fan, i really hope this changes so that we can get people who genuinely want to be here in the future, but it does not happen overnight. colangelo’s arrival certainly was a step in the right direction. the raptors went from a team who couldn’t attract stars even if they were willing to overpay, to a team who can get some (if not most) stars at market value. although i’m not sure bosh is even worth the amount of money he will get next summer, it will be a huge testament to the changes in perception of this franchise if they can resign him, and maybe that alone is worth the extra cash.
if you want to talk about bowing down to someone and surrounding them with overpaid friends, then go back a few years and look at who the raptors re-signed to play around vince carter, and at what price. he took off and left the team with bums. if bosh goes, the team will take a step backward, but is not back to square one. also look at what clevland is doing aroung lebron, if he goes, they are screwed big-time.
