March Break is here and I’m at the library. It hardly seems right to be in the library on my first official day off . However the computer at our place is still fried with a deadly virus (It probably isn’t that deadly but lack of knowledge on my part isn’t getting it fixed that quickly). It’s even prompted my wife to inquire about the purchase of a laptop (See Virginia…there is a Santa Claus). I spent most of the weekend shoveling snow and my back is extremely tired and sore, not as tired and sore as it used to be when I was carrying Jason Dale on my back during our epic battles vs. Turk Shanks and Lloyd “Double Fault” Billo on the courts of Port Dover, but darn close.
While nursing my sore lower lumbars I took the opportunity to catch up on some NCAA basketball action. Twas a great weekend to relax and enjoy the games. It’s creeping up to tourney time and the games are getting closer. In my quest to win a few pools I took this time to do some quality research. Claire and I watched the UCLA vs. CAL game. I was trying to show Claire that Kevin Love is the next coming of Bill Laimbeer so I was showing off my pausing and rewinding skills on the DVR at will (the dvr incidentally has totally revamped my television/sports viewing. It’s amazing). During one moment late in the game I wanted to rewind and show Claire how Kevin Love was open for a three pointer. I was getting cocky with my skills and something went horribly wrong. Instead of rewinding to the spot I wanted, it rewound to the start of the game. It took a while to get back to the spot that I wanted all the while UCLA made a dramatic comeback with a game winning shot that came from behind the back board. My bad I guess. Claire was none too impressed. However she would get her revenge later in the evening.
Due to my screw up in the UCLA game I decided that it would be suitable for me to watch the Canadian National Semi-Final Women’s basketball game that pitted McMaster vs. UBC. Claire had been itching to watch this game all night long. I actually wanted to watch UNC vs. DUKE (partly for the game, but also to get some wonderful insight from Erin Andrews), but I felt compelled to try to watch this game with her. The game was broadcasted on local cable access. The production value was lacking to say the least. It was very reminiscent of Wayne’s World. I think there’s a good chance that Wayne and Garth were producing this game while chomping down on some Stan Mikita’s donuts. To make a long story short……..I fell asleep. I was snoring zzzzz’s by half time. I’m sure it had more to do with the shoveling of the snow, but it might of been because of the rhythmic chants of “DEFENCE……DEFENCE……DEFENCE” from the opening tip of the ball game.
