It’s been common place for many years for women to own the act of throwing a shower for their compadre when someone is expecting a child. A regular shower of the female variety from what I’m told usually sports a name the baby game, perhaps some little finger sandwiches (sans crust) and to top it off the unveiling of the masses of gifts the unborn bean is to receive. By all accounts this rite of passage is a splendid time.
My pals wanted to explore the merits of gender equity so they decided that it would be time to even it out the shower game. On Sunday afternoon the fellas, led by the impecable organizational skills of Matty Whelan and Patrick Sweeney, put on Diapergate: A Male Shower. At first glance it would suggest that the title of this experiment is somekind of broadway show that Matt and Pat put on by taking the lead roles (argh…that’s a somewhat scary image), but in reality it Diapergate was a day to play some bocce ball, drink a few beers and regal in the old form of story telling with my pals. From what I’m told this type of activity doesn’t occur all too often after the birth of the baby, so I’ll take enjoy these moments as much as I can now.
Each person in attendance had to pay the steep cover charge of donating a bag of diapers. Clean preferably, which i’m happy to report all of my friends, including Josh Shank, were able to do. At the end of the day I was left with a mountain of diapers for Baby Siemens to soil. It was hard to pack them into my roomy and sporty Toyota Corolla, but with a little bit of elbow grease they all were able to make it.
Diapergate was a great success. I would like to thank all the guys for coming and especially Matt and Pat for putting on the spread and keeping me hydrated on a hot day. Cheers guys and I just hope you guys don’t mind changing a few of these diapers in the near future. Thanks again.
I’m glad I was able to make it out. it was a great little gathering and I plan on lifting the idea in the future.
Thanks galoot for attending. I can’t wait to attend your diapergate, but first things first…….getting you down the aisle. August 16th is just around the corner. Keep me posted on a evening of debauchery with some of Sturgeon Falls finest.
“At the end of the day I was left with a mountain of diapers for Baby Siemens to soil.”…that’s the funniest line of 2008…good times and yes in about a dozen years when i have kids, i will be stealing this new tradition!…
