Question: What do the MLS and Straight From The Arse have in common?
Answer: Both can count on one hand the number of people interested in their product. (I might be giving myself too much credit there, hopefully there’s some 3 fingered people out there that I’m using as polling clerks)
Regardless of the lack of interest I’m pretty excited for the annual MLS Superdraft today. (This draft isn’t to be mistaken with the “non superdraft”) The TFC own a couple of picks in the first round and I think it would be wise for the fiery Scotsman Mo Johnston to select a local product, O’Brian White, with one of those two selections.
White is coming off an injured knee, but from what I read most expect he to overcome the injury. White won the 2007 MAC Hermann Trophy, U.S. college soccer’s equivalent of the Heisman Trophy. His drafting would provide the Reds with a future replacement for the ever aging Danny Dichio. Add the fact that he’s a local product so that won’t play havoc with the international import/non import rules and you have a recipe for success.
Mo Johnston has had success at the MLS SuperDraft. In 2006, with New York, he traded for the top pick to get defender Marvell Wynne, now a TFC star.
In 2007, Johnston chose Maurice Edu first overall for TFC and the midfielder won rookie-of-the-year honours before transferring to Glasgow Rangers of the Scottish Premier League last summer.
Here’s hoping Johnston can reel some more top flight talent today.
