There’s obviously no love lost between Toronto Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston and everybody’s favourite steroid denier Roger Clemens. It would appear that Cito blames Roger for his first exit as manager of the club in 1997.
I wouldn’t doubt that,” about Clemens getting him fired. Gaston added “he’s an (a**hole) himself, a complete (a**hole). I’d say that loud, right in his face. It’s all about him. Nobody else but him. I wouldn’t doubt that at all.”
Judging by his comments I guess Cito is taking his time in Florida this spring more seriously than many other seniors who are presently wintering in sunny Florida. It could be that Cito is peeved that his 5th starter, Scott Richmond, gave up 6 runs yesterday in his start and the game went way past the 4:00 cut off point for Cito to qualify for an early bird special dinner at the Dunedin Sizzler?
Coupon or no coupon Cito didn’t hold back because from what I’ve read he regrets not challenging Clemens more when he managed him.
“One of us would have had a whooping that day,” Gaston said. “It might have been me, but he would have known I was there.”
Regardless of how you feel about either Cito or Clemens, wouldn’t it be great to see them tussle it out like Rob Dibble and Lou Pinella? I’d like to see that.
