Have you ever bought new pillows? You could easily put me down in the NO column before this past weekend. Up until this time I’ve been laying my head down on some old tried and true pillows from my parents homestead. The First Lady wanted to shake things up this week (pretty exciting times around our Casa Del Vista eh?) so she suggested to me that I go out and buy a new pillow. She was tired of looking at my old ratty pillows and as per usual thought I might need a nudge in the right direction. Naturally my first instict was to fight off this suggestion but alas I’m only so brave. I finally relented and off I went to buy a new pillow. (In the twitter universe I’m sure you’d find #realman right beside my name)
I won’t bore you with the uneventful purchase of said pillow but it’s needless to say that the task of selecting a new pillow was much more difficult than it needed to be. I wouldn’t classify myself as a princess and the pea type of sleeper but it took me awhile to gain enough trust in a new pillow. My interview process wasn’t as extensive as it should have been as I felt I was pressed for time, so I eventually settled on a pillow that we found at Walmart. (I know what you’re thinking…..WALMART??? Nothing but the best for this fat cat).
Being a fella who doesn’t enjoy change too much I wanted to ease myself into sleeping with my new pillow. Like a rookie pitcher up from Triple A I figured I’d start the new pillow off with some power naps and if I had a good power nap or 2 I would extend the pillow’s work load a bit with an afternoon siesta. However this plan had to be altered due to the fact we now have 2 young dudes running around the house thus making a power nap or siesta very unlikely to happen. So I had no choice but to utilize the new pillow immediately without any practice. The results were mixed at best.
The new pillow didn’t gel with it’s pillow mates and collectively all the pillows suffered as a result. Most importantly my sleep suffered in the end because of the lack of chemistry of my pillows. Being a Dad to a newborn and a 2 year old is hard enough with the limited sleep that I get but throw into the mix derailing the little sleep that I do get you are going to get a disaster and thus this is my week. It’s been very long and very tiring. Woe is me.
New pillow I dislike you very much right now.
