The Oak, Charles Oakley was a menacing figure in the NBA during his time on the court. A well-respected teammate and fearless leader by most accounts. In fact Charles Oakley is in the words of the Sports Guy Bill Simmons the real life John Shaft. Bottom line is you don’t cross this man. Tonight I thought I would try to engage the Oak in some twitter conversation. It would seem that Mr. Oakley isn’t too excited to be linked by the New York media as the man who swayed Lebron James from not signing with the New York Knickerbockers.
I was following some of the Oak’s tweets throughout the night (all the while consuming a few crowns and cokes thus summoning some liquid courage) when it became quite obvious that Mr. Oakley wasn’t too happy with the party or parties that started the rumour of him trashing New York to LBJ. My keen memory (even in my somewhat woozy state) recalled that during his time with the Toronto Raptors that Oakley quite often fought with Tyronne Hill of the Cleveland Cavaliers. So in a tweet (such a brazen move these days a blind tweet isn’t it?) I suggested that Tyronne Hill started the rumour.
Oak’s reply was the following. (LOOK FOR THE HANDLE OF ARSYHOLIK…That’s my clever Twitter tag)
You will clearly see that Oakley replies “HAHAHA”. The walking, talking John Shaft laughed at my somewhat witty comment. Kudos pour moi, non?
A most definite highlight of my night (especially since I sat through some horrible Toronto Maple Leaf hockey ce soir).
