I feel like it’s that time where I’ll scribble together some thoughts and well wishes towards a happy and prosperous new year. Unlike in the past where I waited until the morning to write these thoughtful words, I’ve decided to complete this work powered by a bottle of red wine and 3 tall cans of Tuborg (it should also be noted that the First Lady has bowed out gracefully before the ball drop in case she needs to attend to the 5 month old boy later in the evening). So please excuse my lack of sentence structure (which may or may not be worse than usual).
2010 was a by all accounts a fantastic year for me and the First Lady. We welcomed our 2nd son (the Merger) into the fold and his brother (the Association) continues to flourish and grow. Our little family continues to make me smile day in and day out and for this I’m eagerly anticipating what comes next. After a few weeks of trepidation by the Association, he is now becoming a huge fan of the Merger (a thought that probably warms the cockles of David Stern’s heart).
In terms of making New Year’s resolutions I’ve decided that I;m a glutton for punishment. I have a weak constitution and I never fulfill any of them. I’ve tried to write them down, I’ve tried to wager with people and I’ve tried reward myself, but alas nothing in the past has worked. However perhaps this year with the fear of shame for sharing these with you all, I’ll be able to escape my own personal disappointment. Here are a few personal tidbits that I would like to improve upon this year. I’ve decided that attainable goals are most likely realistic goals.
- Give blood as much as I can (it’s in us to give, right?)
- Stop drinking Rye (they won’t let me give blood after it’s consumption)
- Live a healthier lifestyle (see number 2)
- Call my friends more often (some of you might not like this but I’ve relied too much on facebook and twitter and let’s face it, you probably miss my voice.)
Again these aren’t earth shattering, but I do believe they attainable. Let’s not forget that I’ve been drinking a few adult libations as I’ve been thinking of these (not so) resolutions so they may be inadmissible come the morning. What I should really do is make up some resolutions for the pathetic teams I give my fandom to. This year hasn’t been the kindest to the sports teams that I support. The Leafs, Raptors,Bills and TFC have fallen deeper down the standings. I really remain pretty apathetic to their demise though. I’m no Vito from Woodbrigde (like Weed Long from Port Dover, Ontario) however I truly understand that sport is now for entertainment purposes (isn’t that what all fans from crappy teams say?) At least the Blue Jays seem to be on the right track. Perhaps there will be some hope with Alex Anthopavowels running this squad. One can hope?
Happy New Year to my family, friends and random folk that get lost on this internet highway. May 2011 be your year.
