The beauty about hockey – particularly as the stakes rise in the playoffs – is that just about every player is tough. It’s not just enforcers or defensive defensemen who remind us why we watch on TV while they play for puck-related glory. Big-money stars shake off ghastly injuries for two reasons: 1) they’re tough as well and 2) it’s simply expected of them.
Case in point last night Tampa’s Steven Stamkos. He took a blast off the stick from Johnny Boychuk right in the kisser and he barely missed a shift. He simply put on a cage and darted out of the dressing room to get back into action. If this were World Cup soccer or even the NBA you can bet this wouldn’t be the case. Hockey players are a different breed and Stamkos provided further evidence of this again last night.
On a sillier note it’s kind of funny to hear Bob Cole say “In the face” isn’t it?
