Here’s a tidbit of info for all 12 of my loyal readers (thanks to new reader Chuck B. From Lexington, Kentucky) I’m a sucker for inspirational speeches. Playing sports almost all my life I’ve been privy to more than my fair share of dramatic, screaming, pleading and at times poetic speeches all in the effort to light that fire under my large posterior.
Once during preseason football drills in high school (let’s hear it for the Simcoe Sabres – Stay Low…Hit Hard!) something interesting occurred to me prior to me taking the field one day. I had a coach leave a piece of paper in my helmet. On the piece of paper a few scribble lines were left. They read
Leaders are born everyday. Unfortunately few step up to take the reins. What will you do?
Coach Harvey left those words to light a fire under me (whether his motivational practice worked or not isn’t for me to judge but I can tell you that I have glimmering championship ring from that season). A while back I was perusing the information highway for some inspirational speeches or metaphors. Luckily I came across Ray Lewis’ pre game speech to the Stanford Cardinal basketball team.
Goose bumps, my friends. Goose bumps. After watching this I’m ready to suit up.
